If you like automobilia, if you’re looking for some cool vintage advertising for your man cave, take a look at these vintage metal auto part storage boxes.

Original metal wall-mounted tool cabinets which once hung in Sahr’s gas and service station in downtown Fargo, North Dakota, these were pretty stinkin’ dirty. This is them after being sprayed with the hose, before any scrubbing took place. But we cleaned them up and now they are spiffy enough to use in your home.

Even better than metal advertising signs, these vintage metal cases hold things! They can be used, as they once were, as tool and supply cabinets to hold auto, fleet, farm, and marine parts; or you can store anything you’d like inside as there are shelves as seen in the photo above — but don’t worry, all clean now!

I think the black and white box with the retro 70s car, boat, tractor, truck, bus, and boat graphics would be a cool way to store Matchbox and other collectible cars — for little and big boys. But once you buy it, fill it with what you like!

Super functional; super cool.

Uncommon pieces as they were only available to service stations, auto supply shops, and the like; not for consumers.

The taller upright metal Napa & Belden cases are likely from the late 1960s-1970s; the shorter, wider, unit with the green and gold Filko advertising is circa late 1940s-1950s.

You’ll find these items, and many others, in our booth at the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market this weekend in Wisconsin. Our booth is located outside, near the entrance to the flea, in booth #214. Call 701.306.6145 if you need help finding us!

We salvaged a number of vintage metal rolling carts, also known as kitchen carts, utility carts, bar carts, etc. And by “salvaging” I mean they were in atrocious conditions… Rusting, covered in funky old contact paper, missing the rolling wheels, etc., they sure were “fixer uppers” for junkers like us.

But, after lots of elbow grease, sanding, and spray painting, look how fabulous these two look!

The super space-age mid-century modern design begged for some red paint to go with that fancy chrome!

Next to the cart is an vintage industrial paper towel holder that we spiffed up to match. Because what racy red bar cart doesn’t risk some spills?

These pieces, and more, will be brought to this weekend’s Elkhorn Antique Flea Market in Wisconsin, where we expect they will go quickly!

The opening weekend of the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market may have been rainy and not-so-nice, but we sold over half our inventory anyway! Since then, we’ve been focusing on restoring, repairing, painting, etc. of other furniture pieces in (and outside of) our shop.

But here’s a sneak peek at some of what we’ll be bringing to the next one on June 28th… That’s this weekend!

This vintage chest or cabinet served in the workshop — where it was likely made too. Note the drop-down storage and the black metal legs.

Also, a vintage cabinet & kitchen table we salvaged and painted a a creamy butter yellow. Each is properly distressed for a country prim home. (Mighty cute for the dining room or the porch!)

And this mossy green dresser got a few pale yellow stripes and a fresh coat of paint on top.

Last (for right now!) this cute little table we gave a shabby finish and a shiny lacquor seal so it stays chippy — but keeps too much paint from coming off. It also makes the red tone of the wood really pop!

It’s only the half-way mark, and yet this month has been exhausting! Last week, we went picking — everyday. It was the annual “garbage week” here in Fargo, and you wouldn’t believe the stuff some people toss out! This is one week that proves one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. (Of course, not all of it was great; but that’s what makes picking work. That, and the lifting and cleaning of items.)

Of course, there was lots of other rusty relics too. We put many of those in our space outside of Exit 55 Antiques, Fergus Falls, MN. (You can see a photo of some of them on our Facebook page here. Don’t forget to “like” us!) While we were there, we also updated our booth space.

That update included this vintage barbecue display too. (If you wonder who Fair Oaks Antiques is at Exit 55, or at Antiques On Broadway in downtown Fargo, just look for the items marked “EQ” or ask to see the stuff from dealer “EQ”.)

While out picking, we also found lots of old windows and screens. The screens have inspired a project idea, which, when we have some down time I will share; but it’s certainly not down time now — we have the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market this weekend!

So we are leaving for the drive to Wisconsin today. (We were too busy trying to pack the van full — more work, ack! — so I don’t have any photos to preview what we are bringing this time. But photos will be posted on Facebook this weekend.)

Tomorrow evening we’re back on the road again in a loaded van — this time for the season opener at the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. We’ll be sharing a big booth (booth # 216 located between the grandstand and main gate) with my parents, No Egrets Antiques.

It was raining a bit today, so we really hustled to get things safely into the van before they’d get wet, so I have no preview photos to show you. We will post some photos on our Facebook Page, of course. But wouldn’t it be wiser — and more fun! — to get to the sale in person, anyway?

Gates open for the antique and flea market fun at 7 am Sunday, May 19, 2013 — and if you’re super exited, you can buy your way into an early admission on Saturday and wrangle deals while we dealers set-up! Either way, we hope to see you there!

As Hubby mentioned, we’ll be among the over 500 dealers selling at the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market (at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Wisconsin) this weekend. Here are a few of the antiques and vintage collectibles we’re packing up to bring along — and, as always, keep an eye on our official Facebook page to see additional photos of the items we’ll be bringing along.

Lovers of mid-century modern pieces will flip over this ottoman with built-in, angled to the center, magazine racks beneath it. The cushion is original!
